Happy Fiction Friday everyone!! I hope you are all having a great week! Today I want to talk about yet another Kurt Vonnegut book.
This one is a bit different than the other Vonnegut books I have read. I read this on the plane to Florida and wow. More autobiographical and less fiction Vonnegut talks about the truths of life and if you love his work, by far one of his best because of how vulnerable it feels.
He goes on to discuss how insignificant our lives are in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn’t make our lives unimportant. Living life is awful at best, but there are some moments and some things that just make it all worth it. The book opens after the dedication with a sentence, “All persons, living and dead, are purely coincidental.” followed by the prologue and the last seven words of the first chapter “‘being alive is a crock of shit.'”
And if that isn’t classic Kurt Vonnegut than I don’t know what is. He talks about his life as an author, as a husband as a brother and as a father and all the people he met in between. Of all his stories and books, I find this one the most human. What I mean by that, I found Timequake the most vulnerable and honest about life and awful it can be and how okay it can be and how great it can be and how unimportant certain things are.
If you’re like me and kind of cynical, believe that in the grand scheme of things our lives are a pretty insignificant blip in history and the world, then this book is for you. And if you’re not like me and pretty optimistic and think that our lives are important I argue to read this because I think there is a really positive message in it for you too. Mostly to appreciate the little things because that is what makes life great.
Until next time,
Happy Wednesday everyone!! I hope you are all having a great day and week so far!!
Today my monthly favorites are going to be pretty boring. This month was filled with travel and not really trying any new products or venturing off from my already beloved Mac Eyeliner in the shade “Coffee” which I know you all saw coming or the amazing Chanel lipstick in “402 Adrienne”!
So today, my favorite is the latest Florida trip I just got back from with my favorite human (my boyfriend) and got to see my best friend (who lives in Florida) and my other best friend (who works for Disney).
It was a super short jam packed trip and I wouldn’t change a thing (okay, maybe I’d make it a bit of a longer trip)! We started off at Universal Studios, then Hollywood Studios, followed by Magic Kingdom (pictured above with their new firework show “Happy Ever After”) then ended the night at Disney Springs and ended the trip at Epcot and drinking around the world.
It was the most amazing trip and I’m so lucky that I was able to share it with Jason, Sara and Rob. So thank you guys for putting up with me the whole trip as I dragged you all around the parks for three days! Disney is and will always be one of my favorite places to visit and spend time at; I’m so happy I got to do it with Jason and I cannot wait to see where we go next.
Until next time,
Happy Friday everyone!! I hope you are all having a great week! I know I am because I am currently in Florida on vacation with my boyfriend and best friend and it’s freaking amazing! Today I wanted to share what’s on my reading list currently! So let’s jump in shall we? (And don’t worry, a very sappy fun post about my trip will be coming when I get back haha!)
I picked up two books from the Barnes & Nobel classic collection, they were (and I still think it’s going on) on sale for $5 so of course I couldn’t say no. I picked up The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton and Candide by Voltaire. My favorite part about the Classic Collection is that they have so many different options for such great prices that allow you to look and go oh yeah I’ve heard about that book all my life I should read it! And that’s what happened this time around!
And finally I picked up yet another Kurt Vonnegut book because how could I not?? I picked up Timequake; look if they have a book of his that I haven’t read you know I’m gonna pick it up. Vonnegut is such a unique writer and voice and I can never get enough. If you’ve never read him before and enjoy some dark humor and tough questions and topics that leaves you reflecting then 100% go find a Vonnegut book and read it. You’ll be hooked.
That’s the current books on my nightstand that are waiting to be read! Oh! Also! Not pictured are the last two books in the Marnie Rome series by Sarah Hilary! But they haven’t arrived yet and I can’t wait to get my hands on them to see what’s next for her!!
As always, let me know if you have any book recommendations because I’m always looking for more books to read! And let me know what you’ve been reading!
Until next time,
Happy Wednesday everyone!! I hope you are having a lovely week! It’s my favorite kind of blog post to write about! That’s right, as you guessed by the title, I’m about to head on a plane (by the time you read this I will be on the plane!) to go on a really quick jam packed vacation to Florida to see my best friend!
And with that, planning and packing, my two favorite things! So of course because I love reading these posts and watching these videos, I had to write one for this trip too!
As you may have noticed I’ve really been cutting down on the makeup I’ve been wearing and products I used. If you look at any of my other “What’s In My Makeup Bag” posts you’ll see a decent amount of products that I will take… But brace yourself, because this is barely any makeup…
Yup! Three products! That’s it! Can you believe it??? This coming from the person who’d bring like three different lipsticks of basically the same shade but slightly different undertones!
So the products I’m bringing is of course, my beloved MAC Eyeliner in the shade “Coffee”, my NYX Dark Circle Concealer Corrector in the shade “Light”, and a mini Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in the shade “Whip”.
Basically, I’ll wear the eyeliner everyday. I’ll use the concealer if I don’t get enough sleep or going out for the night or hungover… And then I’ll use the lipstick if/when we go out for drinks or something with friends!
Can you believe it??? I’m always a light packer but I’m super proud of myself and super happy that I am finally at a point in my life where I feel proud in my skin and don’t want to/feel the need to coverup completely like I used to. And to be fair I’ve also gotten super lazy.
Until next time!
Happy Friday everyone!! I’m super excited because tomorrow Saturday, January 20th is another performance with the incredible Ohana Performing Arts! And I wanted to talk to you guys about it! Oooo another sneaky self promotion…
My last performance with Ohana Performing Arts was Broadway With a Twist and this one is Make Your Own Magic and we are singing some of your beloved Disney Broadway songs! So you know I was all over that audition and couldn’t wait to get started.
This is my second show with this amazing company and they have become some of my greatest friends and I am so honored and lucky to not only be friends with them but also work with them and create not only some amazing art but a true community filled with support and encouragement something that is very much lacking in the theatre community on Long Island.
So our show is tomorrow at 8pm and if you’re on Long Island and need something fun to do tomorrow night well call that number and reserve your ticket!
Until next time,
Happy Wednesday everyone!! I hope you are all well! Today, I thought I would start sharing what I got in my Ipsy bag this month! So let’s jump right in!
The theme this month is “Game Face” with a nice almost sneaker like design and feel but with really great products that I’m genuinely excited about! (The last two months I wasn’t thrilled and ended giving most of the products up/throwing them out.)
First up we have an eyeshadow from “Absolute New York” in the shade AEAS12 V.I.P. which is this gorgeous gold bronze shade, you know my go to eye look haha! I’ve never heard of this brand but it’s cruelty free and I really like the packaging! Usually with Ipsy most eyeshadows come as single pans and no case and as someone who doesn’t have a pallet of her own they become very hard to store and end up not getting used. So I’m loving the packaging.
Next up we have a kajal eyeliner from the brand Vasanti in the shade “Intense Black”. A nice creamy liner that really is an intense black. Though the full name is “Kajal Waterline Eyeliner” so I’m assuming it’s meant to stay on the waterline, which would be lovely and I can’t wait to put to the test as we all know I am all about eyeliner!
Then from NYX we have one of their Lip Lingerie in the shade “07 Satin Ribbon” which is a nice cool toned light nude (which is the whole point of the line). I’ve tried these before and really loved the shade I had, which was “Honeymoon” and a nice gray toned nude. They’re really comfortable and pretty long lasting!
I then got, an exfoliant lip scrub called “Lipgasm” from the brand Trust Fund Beauty, that is vegan and cruelty free which is awesome. And I do love my lip scrub from Lush but with my dragon skin I’m always looking for new scrubs!
Finally we have the “Gold Lust Dry Shampoo” from Oribe, which I am super excited to try because I keep hearing such amazing things from this brand but I can never bring myself to buy anything from them because of their high price tag. So I can’t wait to give this a go especially because we all know that the majority of the time I am more dry shampoo than human.
And that is everything that I got this month in my Ipsy bag! I’m really thrilled this month and I hope they keep it up! Cause they’re is nothing better than getting new beauty products every month!
Until next time,
Happy Fiction Friday everyone!! I hope you are all doing well! This week’s Fiction Friday is going to be not technically fiction but a fantastic book if you are an actor like myself.
This absolutely incredible book by Jenna Fischer (the incredible Pam Beesley from The Office) her book The Actor’s Life A Survival Guide is a phenomenal book if you are an actor and looking for someone to be honest with you about the struggle to become a working actor and the rewards that come with it.
At this point in my life and my career this hard truth and honest look at myself, what I want, and my business is exactly what I need. Even with Jenna Fischer’s funny anecdotes and humorous tone, she dishes out some serious tough love and if you are serious about becoming an actor it’s exactly what you need to hear.
Nothing is sugar coated whatsoever. Sharing her life as an actor this guide really is a guide. She tells you about headshots and agents and auditions and stuff about the business that no one really tells you until it’s too late.
If you are an actor or want to be an actor I highly recommend this book. No acting book I’ve ever read has been this funny, honest, clever, heartbreaking and 100% without a doubt inspiring. When I finished it, I have never been more excited to jump head first into this business and really start working.
So I absolutely recommend this book. And thank you Jenna for being one of the few people who are honest and encouraging about this lovely, horrible, stressful, fulfilling business.
Until next time,
